Bringing Matcha Closer to Everyday Life
St. Patrick’s Day, the Irish holiday celebrated around the world with everything green, is a festival that honors Irish culture with green clothing and accessories. The Matcha Green Tea Marche was inspired by this shared color. By connecting the vibrant green of the festival with matcha—finely ground powdered green tea traditionally used in Japanese tea culture—, the event creates a unique opportunity for cultural exchange between Ireland and Japan.
First held in 2025 at Yoyogi Park in Tokyo, the event brings together matcha from tea-growing regions across Japan in one lively marketplace. In recent years, matcha has become a global sensation, appearing in drinks and desserts enjoyed around the world. Yet the goal of this event goes beyond a passing trend. Matcha is cherished not only for its rich flavor but also for the sense of calm it brings. Through a wide range of menus and matcha products, the Matcha Green Tea Marche aims to make matcha a natural part of everyday life.
Discover New Ways to Enjoy Matcha
Seven specialty Japanese tea shops from across the country will gather at the venue, each offering its own unique matcha creations. Alongside classic matcha drinks, visitors will find an exciting lineup that includes matcha cocktails, sweets, and even savory dishes—showcasing the many ways matcha can be enjoyed.
One standout item is Matcha Ajillo, an inventive dish made with matcha. Winner of the Grand Prix at the January 2026 edition of the Japan Food Selection, a Japanese food quality award, this dish blends the aroma and umami of matcha into warm oil, creating a perfect pairing with slices of baguette.
Another highlight is the gathering of each shop’s signature matcha lattes. From simple, classic lattes to creative variations—such as amazake matcha lattes made with traditional sweet fermented rice drink, lightly salted matcha lattes, and dessert-style lattes topped with strawberries—the menu is full of tempting choices you’ll want to try.
How to Enjoy the Event
Opportunities for specialty Japanese tea shops from across the country to gather in Tokyo are rare. Take the chance to visit multiple stalls and compare matcha drinks, desserts, and savory dishes. For international visitors, this is a unique opportunity to experience the diverse matcha cultures of Japan’s tea regions all in one place.
Because the event is expected to be busy, mobile ordering is recommended for a smoother experience. Ordering in advance allows you to reduce waiting time and pick up your matcha menu items more easily.
Vendors will also offer carefully selected matcha products, sweets, and matcha-related items for sale. Take some home as souvenirs and continue enjoying your own “matcha moments” even after your trip. Spend a memorable time at Yoyogi Park and experience the many flavors and aromas of matcha with all five senses.
