Bringing Japan’s “Meat Culture” to the World
“Niku Fes” (a large-scale food festival centered on meat dishes) is one of Japan’s largest food entertainment events, showcasing the diversity and appeal of meat culture from across the country to both local and international audiences.
In 2026, the event will run for 12 days—from Wednesday, April 29 to Sunday, May 10—marking the longest edition in Niku Fes history. Special programs are also planned for the final three days, offering an experience that continues to evolve beyond previous years.
This event attracts more than 400,000 visitors each year, and last year it delivered on the idea of a meat celebration that can be enjoyed anytime, with anyone, and as many times as you like.
From family-friendly activities that make it easy for visitors with children to take part, to limited-time programs that offer a different atmosphere during the day and at night, Niku Fes creates a space where you can enjoy the experience in a variety of ways.
This year, even more content is planned, promising an experience that goes beyond previous editions.
20 carefully selected vendors from across Japan
For Niku Fes 2026, 20 standout vendors from across Japan—many known for drawing long lines—will come together in one place. To further elevate the quality of the food, the selection process took nearly a year, with the number of participating vendors deliberately limited.
Each vendor will present original dishes centered on wagyu (high-quality Japanese beef known for its fine texture and rich marbling), while also showcasing regional food culture and locally sourced meats at their best. More than 40 menu items have been jointly developed by the vendors and event organizers specifically for Niku Fes 2026, and every dish is a special creation available only at the venue.
The chance to experience flavors from across Japan all in one place is part of what makes the event especially appealing for international travelers exploring the country on a limited schedule.
How to Make the Most of Niku Fes
One of the highlights of Niku Fes is the chance to experience wagyu in a variety of styles. Wagyu is prized for its delicate texture, rich aroma, and the way its natural sweetness and umami unfold in every bite, earning it recognition from food lovers around the world.
At the venue, you’ll also have the chance to try nigiri sushi (a style of sushi where a slice of topping is placed over hand-pressed rice) made with Matsusaka beef—widely regarded as one of the finest types of wagyu in Japan.
Carefully sourced through a dedicated supply route and prepared using modern low-temperature cooking techniques, this dish brings out the beef’s melt-in-your-mouth texture and rich natural sweetness to the fullest.
Created as a limited menu item without regard for cost, it may only be available for the 2026 event—so don’t miss the opportunity to try it.
